Kim Waldron

Kim Waldron was born in 1979 in Montreal, where she lives and works. A graduate of the NSCAD University, she is completing a master’s degree in photography at Concordia University. Fascinated by human behaviour and social dynamics, her practice juxtaposes autofiction and images of individuals going about their lives and work. She uses photography to analyze, observe and question human nature. In 2007 she carried out an artist’s residency in Vienna, where she intruded into the lives of couples unfamiliar to her, which gave rise to the series of photographs Triples, since shown at venues such as Occurrence – Espace d’art et d’essai contemporains in 2009. For ORANGE 2012, Kim Waldron is presenting a selection from Beautiful Creatures, a bold photographic work begun in 2009 during a residency at the English Harbour Art Centre in Newfoundland that questions our profound disconnect with food. For several weeks, she played the parts of the slaughterhouse worker, butcher and cook in order to better understand the animal’s journey to the meat we eat.
