HÉLÈNE LEFEBVRE |
Hélène Lefebvre was born in Quebec City and lives and works in Ottawa. In an interdisciplinary practice that combines sculpture, textiles, printmaking, performance and video, she examines our relationship with the world through a search for the meaning of life that is individual and collective, personal and social. For ORANGE 2012 Hélène Lefebvre is presenting a performative installation that focuses on the celebrations and rituals around food, our relationship with meat, and vegetarianism. This work, created in collaboration with the community of Saint-Hyacinthe, nearby market garden farms and visitors to the city, will begin with a long performance during the event’s opening and continue in the form of a large still life which, over the six weeks ORANGE is being held, will start to decay, much the way vegetation dies with the passing of the seasons.
