Jordan MacLachlan

Jordan MacLachlan was born in Toronto, where she lives and works. She sculpts models in terracotta depicting animals and humans. Despite her traditional methods and materials, the subject matter of MacLachlan’s installations create unease in the viewer, raising questions about our nature as humans. Placed in strange and complex relations, her characters remind us of our animal nature – one might even say our stupidity – but especially of our weakness as living beings. Her works reflects life itself: complex, contradictory, exquisite, fleeting and sometimes tragic. For ORANGE 2012, Jordan MacLachlan is presenting the work Unexpected Subway Living, which was shown in the exhibition Ineffable Plasticity/The Experience of Being Human at the MOCCA. A serie of absurd and terrifying acts unfolds on a long table. Humans and animals are presented side by side in a sequence of chaotic mini-scenes in which it becomes almost impossible to distinguish human from animal, to understand who eats who, and who survives. Neither appears to win out over the other and both seem to be carried along towards the end.
